***All profits from the sales are given to Tribal Park Allies (more info below). As of the end of November 2021, we were able to give back $3760 to the community. We do live, enjoy and run a business on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and this is one of the ways we want to acknowledge, support, and improve as individuals and as a business.

We've been having this project in the works for some time now and are pretty excited about it! We honestly don't think there are more beautiful surfboard fins out there than those ones :)

Tribal Parks

Tribal Parks aim to promote respectful partnerships for the continued long term protection of Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks (ƛaɁuukwiɁatḥ territory).

The spirit and intent of Tribal Parks is to strengthen relationships between all who live within our Tribal Parks, delivering mutual benefits, and moving towards reconciliation, resilience, and abundance.

Tribal Parks recognizes participating businesses operating in ƛaɁuukwiath Tribal Parks as supporters of the land- and community-visions articulated by the ƛaɁuukwiath First Nation. Participating businesses uphold the ecosystems maintained and protected by ƛaɁuukwiath Guardians and Membership.

Tribal Parks Guardians Highlights 2020

The Guardians were tasked with operating our Community Safety Checkpoints to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the three Tla-o-qui-aht communities and enable the Tribal Parks to reopen in step with the Province of BC between the First and Second Waves. Outside of these core responsibilities, the Guardians were active throughout the Tribal Parks though our partnership projects and independent projects. They participated in:

  • Rearing 46,000 Coho eggs, 42,000 Chum eggs, and 5,000 Chinook eggs to be released this spring in multiple streams throughout the Tribal Parks.
  • Installing 3 log jam structures to restore streams within the Tribal Parks and staging an additional 140 logs for additional structures in 2021,
  • Harvesting and staking 4,000 willow stakes in gravel bars to slow sediment transport and protect redd scour downstream,
  • Brushing 18 hectares of degraded riparian area and planting 11,600 native conifer seedlings
  • Cleaning up 18,750kg of waste from back roads with support of 110 volunteers
  • Removing 67 tonnes of anthropogenic marine debris from 43 hectares of nearshore habitat within the Tribal Parks
  • Removing 11 derelict vessels from eelgrass gardens and clam beds within the Tribal Parks, adding up to 58 tonnes of material.
  • Maintaining and improving the Big Tree Trail
  • Environmental Monitoring and habitat assessment
  • Invasive species control
